Please join the psycho and mental health aid after the earthquake in Yushu, Qinghai, China!

Here comes the sad news of earthquake from Yushu in Qinghai before we get fully recovered from the "5 ? 12" earthquake in Wenchuan, Sichuan and the "8 ? 8" hurricane in Taiwan, while we are still working for psycho and mental health aid to "1 ? 12" earthquake in Haiti.

April 14, 2010, 7:49am (Beijing LST), Yushu, in Qinghai, in China was befallen big earthquake of 7.1 on the Richter magnitude scale. According to the latest statistics from Qinghai government in April 20, the estimated number of earthquake dead is 2046; Missing persons are 193; Injured are 12135, include 1434 severe wounded. Victims are about 100 hundred. These people are waiting for psycho and mental health aid, and rescue workers need also mental health service.

Dear friends: Facing such an unprecedented time of crisis of disaster, we are all survivors! We should join the work of saving life and rebuilding spirit home.

While making the emergency aid to people in the affected area after the earthquake, Yushu also need to take the psycho crisis intervention and assistance. Thereafter, long-term follow-up psycho and mental health aid, and psycho recovery are needed.

Post-disaster psycho and mental health aid is an urgent and long-term task. April 15, at 11:00am, New York Headquarters of the International Association of Chinese Medical Specialists & Psychologists (IACMSP) hold an emergency meeting of president and secretary-general for deploying of psycho and mental health aid to after the ¡®414¡¯ earthquake in Yushu in Qinghai, based on our work experience of psycho and mental health aid to post-disaster in Sichuan ¡®512¡¯, Tawan ¡®88¡¯ and Haiti ¡®112¡¯. On April 20 at 2:00pm, New York Headquarters of the IACMSP hold an second emergency meeting of president and secretary-general for psycho and mental health aid to post-disaster in Yushu ¡°414¡±.

At present, IACMSP selective first batch of psycho and mental health aid information has been successively sent to Yushu. These documents offer necessary technical training of mental health services for the mental health professionals and social workers in Yushu disaster area. On May 16, IACMSP will also send the first group of psycho and mental health experts & volunteers to Yushu disaster area to provide mental health services to prevent and to treat a variety of psychological problems and mental disorders, especially post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Then, as what IACMSP have done under "512" earthquake in Sichuan and "88" hurricane in Taiwan, IACMSP will provide long-term technical information and related equipment of psycho and mental health aid, mental health services, PTSD treatment to Yushu people in affected areas.

IACMSP called on our members in 30 countries and regions, called on our colleagues and friends in the medicine, psychology and sociology fields to participate Yushu post-earthquake volunteer activities organized by IACMSP.

All the mental health experts and clinical psychologists are very welcome to join the IACMSP volunteer team of psycho and mental health aid.
